I’ve always been a person who never saw themselves getting behind the whole audiobook movement; rather, I never had the patience to sit and listen to an audiobook without my mind wandering elsewhere. I returned the audio version and vowed that they just weren’t for me. Then, I found myself with an hour-long ride to university while studying in Japan, and listening to music and podcasts got boring day after day. I broke down and signed up for a free Audible trial and downloaded Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco.

Well, it’s that time of the year again. Yes, it’s time for all writers to unite and begin the painstaking task of creating an entire novel in a single month. Ah yes, historical writing; it’s one of my favorite genres, because this is where we can see our text going beyond what we have written. History is already a story our job, as the writer, is to give it that extra flare while maintaining the actuality of the events. Even in regular fiction novels we become the link to readers and real world topics, whether it be facts around a certain city or topics of discrimination. Our words hold power and knowledge.
