Book Updates #2

Hey Bookoholic’s!

It’s been quite a while since the last Book Update so, I figured it’s time to get back into the nitty gritty of what’s going on in the book world! Let’s dive in, shall we?

To kick off this second installment of Book Updates we’re going to start off with Colleen Houck, the woman who brought us the Tiger’s Curse series! Now, I don’t know about you, but this series absolutely changed me. I loved the characters, the setting, the plot. Everything about the series and the world Houck created was absolutely breath taking.

When Kelsey was sad, I was sad, when she was angry, I was angry. I felt the characters and it was one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had. Houck just seemed to understand how to make her characters’ really connect with the readers. However, there’s something I believe she does even better in her writing and that’s creating the interactions between characters’.

As a writer I understand the difficulty that comes with writing. Some people may not believe that writing is difficult, but, in reality, it’s not so easy and, one of the things I tend to struggle with, is writing in good interactions between my characters and really creating a growing environment. Colleen Houck does this astoundingly with her characters in Tiger’s Curse. Which is why I’m also really into her series Reawakened.

ReunitedThe trilogy has been out for some time now, however, the conclusion is just on the horizon. If you’ve been following along with the series, as I have, then you know what’s to come and you know what we’re all hoping to happen.

The final installment is called Reunited and will come out in stores on August 8 which is just around the corner! It’s definitely a book I plan on getting my hands on as soon as it hits the shelf. I’m really excited to see how our main protagonist, Lilliana, grows within this last book.

Before I continue on, I want to take a moment and also comment on the overall artwork and cover design of the book. As with Houck’s work, her covers are always something pleasing to the eye. With this work, Reunited, I love how it still incorporates the Egyptian eye like the previous works have. It’s all interconnected which I really like.

Onto our next topic for today.

Some of you may have heard of the new book that just hit the market, Girl in Snow. It came out on August 1 and something I’ve been following for a little while now. The cover is what first caught my attention.

girl-in-snow-9781501144370_hrIt’s not too busy which is really nice. It shows what needs to be showed in order to catch the readers attention. The font that is used for the title and the authors name is also really pleasing to the eyes because it looks handwritten and almost messy. It’s not neat and pretty like most fonts on covers are nowadays.

For those of you how don’t know what the book is about, I’ll insert the link here for you to go and check it out on Goodreads. I’m excited to get my hands on a copy of it and to dive into the plot because it really does seem like something I’ll enjoy.

So, moving out of the book world for a minute, though not really, I’ve researched some books that’ll be hitting the big screen come 2018 and, I’ve got to say, I’m pretty excited.

ReadyThe first one on the list would be Ready Player One. I have yet to read the book, but the trailer looks pretty amazing so it’s definitely gotten moved up on my list of ‘Must Reads’. The original release for this was set in 2017 but, due to some set backs, the new release date, as of now, is March 30, 2018.

If you’re interested in checking out the book I’ll insert the link here.

The second book to hit the big screen in 2018 is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. Now, I’m really excited about this one because I have read the book and all I can say is, go pick it up now and start reading. The book was amazing. I loved Violet. I loved Finch. It truly and beautiful created a tale of depression and mental diseases. It has amazing character growth within it and it really gets the reader thinking.

When I learnt that this would be coming to the big screen I was truly excited and, even now, I’m eagerly awaiting its release.

The third and final book due to hit the screen come 2018 is the first installment of the Chaos Walking series, The Knife of Never Letting Go. Now, I read this book quite a while ago so I don’t really remember everything within it, but I do remember the important parts and the plot of the novel. I never got too far in the second book, but, once I saw that there are plans for the book to be made into a movie, I realized I’d have to go back a read the first one again.

KnifeThe first book was good. I really enjoyed it. I was never one for reading books from the male perspective, they just never really appealed to me, but this book seemed different. I got it from my cousin because she wasn’t really interested in reading it and, once I started, I couldn’t stop. I really enjoyed following Todd on his journey and learning all of the secrets within the book. I wanted to know more and, as I got further into the book and read page after page, I needed to know more.

If you’re interested in reading The Knife of Never Letting Go I’ll attach a link here. Go check it out, I’m sure you’ll like it.

That wraps it up on some of the books coming to the big screen next year. I hope you’re as excited for some of them as I am! I believe that also wraps up the second Book Updates post!
